Motorcycle Helmet – Riders without a helmet are 60% more likely to suffer a fatal head injury in a crash and are three times more likely to suffer brain injuries, than those with helmets.

Armoured Jacket – Jeans, a T-shirt, and trainers are recipes for a painful disaster on a moped, scooter or bike. Instead, you want clothing that will protect you from wind chill, flying bugs and debris, and, yes, lots of road rash if you fall off. For maximum protection, Kickstart will provide a specially designed jacket with rugged padding and breathable mesh material that provide protection as well as ventilation for riding in warm weather. And keep in mind that car drivers who have hit a motorcycle rider often say they just didn’t see them, so choose clothing in bright colours.

Motorcycle Gloves – The first thing you do in a crash is put your hands out to protect yourself – it’s instinct. Unfortunately, fingers and wrists are fragile, so it doesn’t take much for them to sustain long-term damage. It can take less than a second in contact with the road to remove the skin from your hands so never ride without specialist motorcycling gloves – a strong protective layer is essential.

Waterproof Trousers – These trousers not only provide you with additional protection in the event of an accident or fall, they will provide additional protection from the predictably unpredictable British weather.

High Visibility Vest – to increase visibility on the road, Kickstart recommend that all riders wear a High Visibility Vest. After an accident, most drivers will state that they did not see the rider, therefore, it is extremely important that you make every effort you can to be seen on the road.
